Work on an extra lane of traffic on Sydney's Hills M2 motorway between Pennant Hills Road and Windsor Road to accommodate traffic exiting NorthConnex will get underway from February 6.
NSW's Minister for Roads, Duncan Gay, said the work will help deliver one of the NSW State Government's most significant infrastructure projects.
"NorthConnex will provide a critical link for motorists travelling between Western Sydney and the Central Coast," he said.
"We'll see major travel time improvements and thousands of trucks off Pennant Hills Road.
"While work is carried out on the Hills M2 over the next two years, road users travelling westbound will need to reduce their speed for a few kilometres of the motorway."
The NSW Government estimates that, once complete, NorthConnex will be capable of carrying over 100,000 vehicles per day, the route also removing 5000 trucks a day from Pennant Hills Road.
Once work begins the speed limit on a 3.5 kilometre section of the motorway will be reduced from 100km/h to 80km/h.
The $3 billion NorthConnex project will see twin nine kilometre tunnels built under Pennant Hills Road, bypassing up to 21 sets of traffic lights and saving up to 15 minutes of travel time.
The NorthConnex project is scheduled for completion in 2019.
