The CEO of the National Transport Commission, Paul Retter, has said the recent appointment of Neil Scales OBE as a part-time commissioner will bring a great deal of experience and expertise to the body.
"Mr Scales brings extensive transport industry experience as well as a detailed understanding of the transport challenges faced by governments and the rest of the Australian community," he said.
The appointment was announced on Friday, September 12, by Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss.
Mr Scales, who is the current Director General of the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads, will replace Norm McIlfatrick, who completed his term as NTC Commissioner in August 2014.
Mr Scales has almost 40 years of experience in transport and qualifications in engineering and management. He received an Order of the British Empire in 2005 for his services to transport in the UK, where he was serving as Chief Executive of MerseyTravel.
"We look forward to working with Mr Scales as we continue to improve the productivity, safety and regulation of Australia's transport networks," said Mr Retter.
