NZ company takes delivery of 100th Maxi-CUBE

Milestone for on-line shopping company as its fleet of tri-zone delivery trucks grows
New Zealand supermarket chain Countdown has taken delivery of its 100th Maxi-CUBE rigid truck body for its growing online business.
Customised to suit Countdown’s requirements, the bodies have provided the business with a productivity gain of over 30 per cent.
Countdown approached a number of manufacturers for a truck body with the capability of transporting frozen, refrigerated and ambient products simultaneously. One that maximised the number of delivery crates they were able to carry, and that was durable enough to last 10-15 years over the life of two or three trucks.
Trailer and rigid truck body manufacturer MaxiTRANS was successful in its bid due to its ability to customise its Maxi-CUBE products to those requests, along with its capacity to fulfil large orders and its back-up support.
Fitted onto a selection of Isuzu and Hino trucks, each body has three different compartments for frozen, chilled and ambient storage, with dedicated railing to support Countdown’s unique delivery crates. The 100th Maxi-CUBE rigid body was delivered recently following a series of repeat orders dating back to 2011.
Countdown National Operations Manager Tony Petrie said that the delivery coincided with a milestone event for his company: "2016 marks 20 years of Countdown’s online grocery shopping," he said. "We deliver to 99 per cent of the country and the Maxi-CUBE rigid bodies have been a big part of that recent success as we have expanded our network."

MaxiTRANS Account Manager John Stevens assisted Countdown from the first order to the 100th delivery. "It’s a great achievement for everyone involved in the process," said John. "From the MaxiTRANS team who build the bodies to Thermoking who supply and install the fridge units and TCC who print and apply the graphics, this has been a real team effort over the years. It doesn’t seem that long ago that the first unit went into service, so to reach the milestone of 100 units is fantastic. Most importantly from the customer’s point of view, this is a great success story for Countdown’s nationwide home delivery service."

Tony said that John’s ability to supply a body with tri-zone temperature capability and the thermal integrity to maintain those temperatures regardless of outside conditions was important to Countdown.

"From ice-cream to fresh produce to bread, we deliver possibly the widest variety of products possible to our customers, often all within the one order," said Tony. "MaxiTRANS’ ability to design a rigid body that perfectly optimised conditions to keep all of our products fresh and deliver them in a safe and acceptable condition to the customer’s house was definitely an important deciding factor."
