As the Australian truck industry readies itself for the 2014 International Truck, Trailer & Equipment Show, due to be staged at Melbourne’s Royal Showgrounds over April 3-6, PACCAR Australia is also busily readying itself for the local launch of its new MX-13 engine.
Utilised by Kenworth's Dutch sibling, DAF, in cab-over models since 2007, the platform is now available in various bonneted Kenworth formats, giving Kenworth customers a further engine choice beyond Cummins.
A six-cylinder in-line turbo-diesel, the MX-13 is available in 460hp and 510hp formats with 2305Nm and 2508Nm respectively.
A range of eco-friendly technologies have been employed to ensure the engine complies with ADR80/03 requirements, including multi-point SMART electronic fuel injection and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR).
The engine also features the use of compact graphite iron in its cylinder head and block, as well as a an aluminium ladder-frame construction, to minimise weight.
PACCAR Australia is hosting the local press launch of the engine on Tuesday, April 1, with a technical presentation and a closed drive session in a variety of Kenworth models at the Australian Automotive Research Centre (AARC) at Anglesea, Victoria.
