Passion drives Lego Scania

Here's a new Scania and low-loader trailer you definitely won't see plying Australia's highways and byways…
For most of us Lego was an engaging childhood pastime – a chance to create our own fantasy cars, trucks, aeroplanes and spaceships on the lounge room floor, our efforts punctuated by the occasional piercing cry of an adult stepping on a piece in bare feet.
For Netherlands-based Dennis Bosman, however, a passion for Lego and trucks long ago became an enduring obsession – an obsession that recently led to the creation of this stunning replica Scania R 500 and low-loader trailer.
Bosman, who works in finance in the Netherlands’ telecommunications industry, says he built the truck and trailer over two years, the end result comprising around 15,000 to 20,000 Lego bricks.
The 1:13 scale model measures 212cm long, but Bosman stops short of quoting a GCM…
He’s been building replica Lego trucks since he was 18 and says he’s particularly fond of Scania models.
“I must disassemble older models to reuse the bricks,” he says.
“I was tempted to tear apart my Scania L 111 model but in the end I decided to keep it.”
Bosman says it’s hard to put a finger on his affection for the Swedish manufacturer’s vehicles.
“I have no particular relation to any of the truck brands but probably half of the models I’ve built are Scanias,” he says.
“There are several reasons: the modular construction; the particular feeling of Scania; and the V8.”
