Penske Truck Rental hits Australia

Penske Commercial Vehicles has launched Penske Truck Rental, with an initial fleet of 20 MAN and Western Star trucks now available for lease

Penske Commercial Vehicles, the Brisbane-based importer and distributor of Western Star, MAN and Dennis Eagle trucks, has announced it has expanded its focus to include truck rentals.

Penske Commercial Leasing Australia will trade under the name of Penske Truck Rental, and is initially offering a 20-strong fleet MAN and Western Star trucks from its office within the Penske-operated Brisbane Truck Centre, in the southern Brisbane suburb of Rocklea.

Penske Commercial Vehicles says the new venture will combine the fleet-management expertise of Penske Truck Leasing with its own knowledge of the local market. Headquartered in Reading, Pennsylvania, Penske Truck Leasing currently manages over 200,000 vehicles across more than 1000 outlets in North and South America, Europe and Asia.

The President and CEO of Penske Truck Leasing, Brian Hard, said Penske Truck Rental's Brisbane outlet was just the beginning.

"We have an ambitious growth plan for our truck leasing and rental businesses," he said.

"This new location will serve as a foundation for us to begin expanding and serving commercial truck fleet customers throughout Australia."

The General Manager of Penske Commercial Leasing Australia, Adrian Beach, said the division's establishment represented a great opportunity.

"We're excited to bring a new level of customer service as well as quality, well-maintained rental vehicles to Australia's trucking and logistics industry," he said.

"We plan to expand rental services into other areas in coming months."

The initial rental fleet offering comprises MAN TGS 6x4 prime movers with 540hp engines and 12-speed Tipmatic transmissions, along with Western Star 4864 FS2 and FXC prime movers, both with 560hp engines and Eaton UltraShift Plus transmissions. The FS2 has a day cab while the FXC has a sleeper cab.

All Penske rental trucks are provided with full fuel tanks, toll transponders and sat-nav units.

Penske Truck Rental is located within the Brisbane Truck Centre at 1543 Ipswich Road, Rocklea. The rental office is open weekdays from 8.00am to 6.00pm and Saturdays from 8.00am to 12.00pm by appointment.
