Premix Concrete SA builds with Isuzu

New Isuzu FYJ Agitator delivers for family-owned business in South Australia

When Premix Concrete SA needed a new agitator, it turned to the truck brand it knew it could trust to produce a truck perfectly suited to its needs: Isuzu.

Now a new Isuzu FYJ Agitator is proving its worth to the family-owned business, which was founded over 30 years ago by Vic Femia and today is run by his sons. In that time the business has flourished, growing from a single truck in 1989 to a fleet of 30 today – along with 50 employees, three operational plants and a laboratory.

Big territory

The business now carts up to seven cubic metres of concrete per load across a large swathe of South Australia, its trucks averaging 2800 kilometres each month.

"We needed a truck that was capable of doing the job that we needed it for; that was our priority," says Sales Manager for Premix Concrete SA, Scott Dykstra.

"And we knew, after having owned several Isuzu trucks, we could trust the brand to deliver a truck that was perfectly suited to our application."

Power and poise

The FYJ Agitator has a GVM of 30,000kg and its engine produces 257kW at 2000rpm and 1422Nm at 1400rpm, while its compact turning circle pays major dividends when accessing tight work sites.

"The cab also has exceptional vision, which means reversing the truck in enclosed spaces is safer, giving our drivers greater versatility," says Scott.

The new agitator lines up with a number of other Isuzu models on the Premix Concrete SA fleet, including an FYJ 300-350, an FVY 240-300, an FVZ 260-300 and nine FVZ 1400s.

"In our business, there's no option to simply hire an agitator if our vehicle breaks down," says Scott.

"Having vehicles inoperative means you are losing money and customer confidence.

"Having good vehicle management, preventative maintenance and a reliable vehicle are the keys to keeping our trucks on the road and, in consequence, our customers happy."
