Product recall: Freightliner trucks with DD15 engine

Following on from Western Star, a recall notice has now also been issued for a decade's worth of Freightliner trucks with Detroit's 15-litre engine

A product safety recall notice has been announced for over 3000 Freightliner trucks fitted with Detroit Diesel's DD15 engine, due to the potential for a fuel line leak.

The notice applies to a total of 3053 trucks with model years spanning 2010 to 2020 and sold between January 1, 2010, and March 8, 2020.

It follows on from a recent recall issued for Western Star trucks fitted with the same DD15 turbo-diesel. That notice affected 2918 vehicles, bringing the total to 5971 trucks.

Details of the product recall are as follows:

What are the defects?

Fuel may leak from the engine's high pressure fuel rail feed lines.

What are the hazards?

If a fuel leak occurs, this may cause a subsequent engine fire, which could result in serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.

What should consumers do?

Owners are requested to contact any authorised Freightliner/Detroit Diesel Dealership who will make a convenient booking time as soon as possible to replace the high pressure fuel rail feed lines and supporting hardware with severe duty high pressure fuel line kit, free of charge.

If you have previously had your vehicle completed under RC3149-D9R5A or RC3151-D19R5B your vehicle will still need to be completed under this new safety recall.
