The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission has issued a product safety recall for the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, with 127 examples affected spanning 2018 to 2020 model years.
The product recall concerns the vehicle's rear axle steel leaf springs, which "may not meet the required level of strength during operation and may break during use".
According to the recall, "If one of the springs breaks, the driver may not have full control of the vehicle, increasing the risk of an accident and injury to the vehicle occupants and other road users."
Owners of the affected vehicles have been asked to contact their nearest Mercedes-Benz dealership to arrange for the replacement of the rear axle springs, which will be carried out free of charge.
The affected Mercedes-Benz Sprinters were sold nationally between December 3, 2018, and February 10, 2020.
