Race face for Hay Runners

A Freightliner Racing transporter has joined the Burrumbuttock Hay Runners convoy, which leaves NSW for Queensland tomorrow

There will be an extra sense of urgency in the air when the Burrumbuttock Hay Runners depart for drought-stricken central-western Queensland tomorrow (January 7), as among the 120 trucks taking part will be Freightliner Racing's Argosy race transporter.

More accustomed to hauling two V8 Supercars and a vast array of team equipment, driver Paul 'Stax' Eddy has joined the run with a trailer stacked with 32 bales of donated hay.

Replete in race team livery, the truck will head from its Albury base to Darlington Point, south of Griffith, before making the 1850 kilometre trek to Ilfracombe, near Longreach, to assist farmers in the drought-ravaged region.

Organised by NSW farmer Brendan Farrell, this is the 10th such run staged since early 2014. Big-hearted truckies are donating their time, trucks and fuel to make the run, the latter estimated at around $2000 per truck.

For information on how you can donate to help cover the fuel bill, click here or visit the Burrumbuttock Hay Runners Facebook page.

"The farmers are really doing it tough up there," Eddy said.

"They have had no rain for so long that they could really do with a little help."

Once Eddy has returned from the run the Argosy will receive its 2016 Freightliner Racing livery, ready for the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide on March 3.
