The Commercial Vehicle Industry Association of Queensland's 12th annual president's charity dinner in Brisbane on May 31 raised a record amount of over $165,000 for the Leukaemia Foundation of Queensland.
There were some unique auction items up for grabs at the gathering, including ‘Goldie’, the limited-edition Mack Titan which attracted which plenty of attention and sold for $405,000 – the profit donated to the foundation by the manufacturer. Also of note was a stirring poem written off-the-cuff by co-host Rupert McCall, which after spirited bidding went to CVIAQ.
The Leukaemia Foundation of Queensland Chief Executive Officer, Bill Petch, said he was delighted that nearly 300 hundred people attended the evening, contributing to the record fundraising amount.
“Since its inception in 2002, the partnership between the Foundation and CVIAQ has raised over $1.25 million to support patients and families affected by blood cancer,” Mr Petch said.
McCall’s co-host was Lexy Hamilton-Smith, while guests were also entertained by songstress Amber Lawrence.
The Leukaemia Foundation of Queensland is a not-for-profit organisation which relies on the generosity and support of individuals, sponsors and business partnerships throughout the state to continue its work.
The Foundation is committed to caring for people living with leukaemias, lymphomas, myeloma and related blood disorders by providing practical support to patients and their families including free accommodation, transport, counselling and education services.
