Record Mid-America Show

The world's premiere truck show for 2015 has set an all-time record for attendance

Organisers of the Mid-America Trucking Show say the event attracted a record number of attendees this year, with a total of 81,768 visitors from 74 countries passing through the event's doors over March 26 to 28.

Held at the Kentucky Expo Centre in Louisville, Kentucky, the event saw 1064 exhibitors showcasing their latest and greatest, with a glittering array of trucks and associated hardware and accessories spread over 110,000 square metres.

The attendance eclipsed the previous record set in 2012 and, as a barometer of the US industry's general health, it augurs well for a prosperous year ahead.

While all the major manufacturers present were highlighting their most advanced products, grabbing plenty of the limelight was the Freightliner SuperTruck (pictured), a futuristic working prototype that – as a part of the US Department of Energy's SuperTruck program – is said to utilise numerous technologies to achieve an efficiency gain of 115 per cent (over a 2009 baseline truck). The 2016 Mid-America Trucking Show will be held at the same venue over March 31 to April 2, but for a neat little insight into this year's event – from the Freightliner SuperTruck to a chicken-wing eating contest – check out the playlist compilation below…
