Road freight heavyweight Redstar Transport has closed, with the operator shutting up shop at its premises in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Dubbo, and stranded drivers forced to walk away from loaded trucks and make their own way home.
Liquidator Price Waterhouse Coopers has been appointed to wind up the company's affairs, which in a cruel blow has come just days before Christmas, with many hundreds now left without work.
The company is believed to have around 400 workers nationally.
Those workers' entitlements will be paid out under the Federal Government's workers protection scheme.
Redstar Transport ran a large fleet of modern trucks in single trailer, B-double, B-triple, double road train and triple road train combinations.
