Australia Post may have only recently begun its trial of Renault's Kangoo ZE (or Zero Emissions) delivery vehicle but the electric version of the manufacturer's LCV is 'charging' ahead in the French postal service, La Poste, which just took delivery of its 5000th model.
With 69,000 vehicles La Poste runs France's largest commercial fleet and its staff already use nearly 25,000 electric vehicles spanning LCVs, quad bikes, three-wheelers and electrically assisted bicycles.
To mark the delivery of the 5000th Kangoo ZE, La Poste Chairman and CEO, Philippe Wahl, and Renault Group Chairman and CEO, Carlos Ghosn, recently attended a ceremony at a mail hub south of Paris, where they handed the keys to the vehicle to postal worker Vivien Malungu.
Mr Wahl and Mr Ghosn signed a partnership on October 31 that will see the two organisations intensify their focus on achieving a range of eco-mobility solutions. The agreement will see Renault and La Poste share data gleaned from tests and various R&D projects relating to clean vehicles; develop vehicles specifically for urban logistics; and experiment with clean vehicles with a cargo capacity of up to 17 cubic metres.
The partnership will also delve into vehicle telematics and C-ITS (Co-operative Intelligent Transport System) with a view to producing an 'intelligent' and 'connected' commercial delivery vehicle by 2020.
