Renault unveils 'Green Van Plan'

Renault Australia has launched an initiative aimed at further reducing the environmental footprint of its diesel engines
Renault Australia has launched its 'Go Green to Grow Green' plan in conjunction with climate action organisation Greenfleet, and it will offset the expected carbon emissions of all 'Bamboo Green' Trafics for the first seven years of their lives.
Essentially Greenfleet will plant enough trees in native forests to absorb the carbon emissions of all Bamboo Green Trafics sold, based on the official fuel consumption figure for the model of 6.2L/100km, using an average of 30,000km per van, per year (also the Trafic's service interval).
The equates to an offset of six tonnes of CO2 per vehicle, incorporating an allowance of 20 per cent to reflect real-world fuel consumption.
Justin Hocevar, Renault Australia Managing Director, said the initiative was a win for buyers of the van and the environment.
"We are pleased to be able to provide buyers of Bamboo Green Renault Trafic vans with both a financial and ethical incentive to go green," he said.
"As a vehicle manufacturer Renault is very concerned about its impact on the environment, and has some class-leading technologies in its vans already aimed at reducing emissions. Besides being among the most fuel-efficient engines in their respective classes, most Renault vans also now feature an Eco Mode to help further reduce fuel consumption.
"Vehicle emissions are significant contributors to urban air pollution. Vehicle manufacturers have a social responsibility to minimise the impact of their products on the environment, and this program provides visible evidence that Renault takes this responsibility seriously."
