Roper Highway truck bay upgrade

A total of $750,000 to be spent on upgrading three truck bays in the Top End's Gulf region

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Warren Truss, has announced that $750,000 has been committed to the upgrading of three truck bays on the Roper Highway, in the Northern Territory's Gulf region.

"This programme boosts productivity and safety for heavy vehicle operations across Australia by enhancing the capacity of existing roads," Mr Truss said.

"An increase in heavy vehicle traffic associated with mining activities in the Gulf has highlighted the need for better truck rest stop facilities to help heavy vehicle drivers manage fatigue.

"These truck parking bays will be sealed to provide higher standard rest stops for heavy vehicle drivers servicing the needs of local residents and businesses in the region."

The upgrade is expected to be complete by the middle of this year.
