North America’s big chill may have stopped many motorists in their tracks but it’s nothing but good news for one innovative Canadian firm, which has produced a system that transforms a standard 4WD pick-up into a tracked vehicle that laughs in the face of deep snow.
While permanent track conversion set-ups already exist, AD Boivin Inc’s TrackNGo system can be mounted and removed with minimal fuss. The driver simply drives onto the tracks two at a time before clamping them into position.
The company says the process takes around 15 minutes to fit a complete set.
Integrated rollers then press into the vehicle’s tyres, in turn driving the tracks with a 1:1 drive ratio.
The front tracks turn with the front wheels while deflection plates help the vehicle climb up the face of deep drifts.
The tracks can still be used on sections of tarmac at speeds of up to 60km/h.
At approximately $A25,000, the TrackNGo system goes a little beyond the scope of most enthusiasts. However, for colder regions where heavy snowfall can seriously hamper day-to-day life, it’s bound to grab some attention.
