Safety Truck a finalist in Awards

The Volvo ATA Safety Truck is in line for a gong in the 2017 Australian Road Safety Awards
The Volvo ATA Safety Truck has been declared a finalist in the community program category of the 2017 Australian Road Safety Awards. The Australian Road Safety Awards are presented by Caltex, and are an initiative of the Australian Road Safety Foundation.
The Volvo ATA Safety Truck is a mobile education centre that teaches safety in and around trucks all across Australia. In 2016, the Volvo ATA Safety Truck visited 49 schools and events and directly engaged over 30,000 visitors who came through the exhibit and shared its key safety messages.

The Australian Road Safety Foundation has designed the Awards program to help raise general awareness about road and driver safety and to promote strategies and initiatives that address road safety issues across all sectors.

Entries were received for seven award categories including; Community Programs; School Programs; Indigenous Road Safety Programs; Innovation; Corporate Fleet Safety Programs; Local Government Initiatives and State Government Initiatives.

“We are delighted with the high number of entrants in this year’s Australian Road Safety Awards” said Russell White, CEO of the Australian Road Safety Foundation.
Commenting on the Safety Truck being a finalist, ATA Chair Noelene Watson said: “I am very proud that the Volvo ATA Safety Truck is a finalist in the Australian Road Safety Awards. The nomination highlights the ATA’s long-standing commitment to safety and leadership of the discussion about practical road safety measures.”
“In its 2015 major accident investigation report, Australia’s leading truck insurer, NTI, concluded that the truck was not at fault in 84 per cent of the fatal multi-vehicle accidents involving trucks that it considered.
“The Safety Truck’s work in educating car drivers and future car drivers is absolutely vital,” Mrs Watson added.
The Volvo ATA Safety Truck features state of the art technology with videos and interactive displays that teach visitors about safety in and around trucks. It demonstrates key safety concepts such as avoiding blind spots, cutting in, and not overtaking turning vehicles, as well as other safety issues such as driver distraction and seatbelts.
The Volvo ATA Safety Truck is proudly fuelled by BP, powered by NTI and receives contributions from many other safety focused businesses and organisations.
The Australian Road Safety Awards will be presented at a ceremony in Melbourne on Wednesday 22 March.
The awards acknowledge the achievements of leading road safety stakeholders and provide an opportunity to formally recognise their commitment to improving road safety.
