Western Australian refrigerated freight firm Sara Logistics says its shifting its fleet over to Allison-automatic-equipped trucks to capitalise on their efficiency and reduced driver fatigue.
The company recently took delivery of three Fuso Fighter models fitted with Allison 2500 Series full autos and it says they're ideally suited to their urban distribution role.
The founder and CEO of Sara Logistics, Chris Sara, says he can depend on the Allison automatic transmissions.
"With frozen perishables onboard, we simply cannot have a truck break down," he says.
"And in terms of reliability, Fusos equipped with Allison automatics have a perfect record and have never let us down."
Each vehicle averages 2000km per week and Sara says they're delivering appreciable savings.
"The Allison automatics are proving less expensive to run," he says.
"It's not only in terms of maintenance and repairs to the driveline, but also in terms of fuel economy."
Sara says the auto transmissions allow his drivers to concentrate on negotiating busy city streets, while dispensing with gear shifts means the drivers are less fatigued and ultimately safer.
"Automatics are definitely the way to go when it comes to operating trucks in a busy city environment because they allow the drivers to not have to worry about changing gears, which is not just safer, but also more efficient," he says.
"Drivers love them and at the end of a shift, they report that they are more relaxed in an automatic than in a manual truck, which means they can work at their peak throughout the shift, not just at the start."
