Scania Australia signs another renewable fuel deal

Scania Australia has signed another memorandum of understanding with a supplier to bring greater access for its truck and bus customers to low-emission alternative and renewable fuels.

The MOU was signed between Scania and Refuelling Solutions on October 4 in Melbourne, with the aim of assisting the distribution of biodiesel to a greater number of users of this low emission fuel.

Refuelling Solutions is a 30-year-old Australian-owned and run business that began supplying fuel via mini-tankers to onsite equipment in 1987. Since then it has grown to be a national supplier of fuels to a wide variety of consumers, from primary industries and mining, to major national civil and commercial infrastructure projects.

“We aim to deliver solutions that improve refuelling productivity, convenience, reliability and safety for our customer’s businesses, and we are dedicated to continually evolving the way we service our customers,” said founder and Managing Director of Refuelling Solutions, Tony Hartin.

“The rise in interest in alternative and renewable fuels, and the increasing number of vehicles that can consume these products delivers an opportunity for our business and we are pleased to form a partnership with Scania to play a role in helping to reduce the environmental impact of fuel consumed by our customers,” he says.

Scania says the partnership has evolved as part of Scania’s strategy to remove barriers to all types of operators considering making the shift towards a sustainable transport system, with the adoption of low-emission fuel being the first and most significant step in the short term.

“We have been seeking partners who are committed to supplying alternative and renewable fuels of a high, consistent and reliable standard that can be used as genuine substitutes for regular diesel across the heavy vehicle industry,” said Anthony King, Scania Australia’s Sustainable Solutions Manager.

“To date we have signed MOUs for the supply of biodiesel from Just Biodiesel, as well as Ecotech Biodiesel, Ethanol fuel supplier Wilmar Bioethanol Australia, and the ENGV Group – infrastructure suppliers and consultants for Natural Gas and Biogas.

“Now we are very pleased to welcome Refuelling Solutions to this group of low emission fuel suppliers, as the business plays a vital role in the distribution of low emission fuel to a cross-section of fuel consumers, as well as transporting B100 base stock fuel to refineries for blending to various levels, for wide distribution.

“All of this activity plays a role in reducing CO2 emissions by heavy transport fleets and heavy machinery,” Anthony says.

“Furthermore, at Scania we are keen to assist in the strengthening of Australia’s energy self-sufficiency and security, reducing reliance on imports, which as we have seen in recent weeks, are sensitive to dramatic price fluctuations as a result of actions overseas completely beyond our control.”

Scania says that it has one of the largest ranges of alternative and renewable fuel-ready engines and has been offering some of these in Australia for some time.

“The solutions we have are available here and now, today,” Anthony concluded.
