Scania is aiming to help waste contractors clean up in the urban market with a new ready-built solution that features a rear-loading, low-profile Superior Pak compactor body.
The 20 cubic metre body with 7400kg payload is no higher than the Scania P-series cab, which provides plenty of clearance for working in residential and crowded cities, where many streets feature trees with branches overhanging the roadway.
Scania has been very successful in providing 8x4 configuration P-series trucks to the front-loader waste operator market in recent years and is confident the new ready-built rear loader will enjoy as enthusiastic a reception.
The ready-built package is built around the latest generation 310hp SCR five-cylinder Scania engine that delivers plenty of performance and very frugal fuel consumption.
With 1550Nm of torque available between 1100-1350rpm, the truck is said to be both quiet and efficient. The specification includes the latest Scania fully automated two-pedal Opticruise transmission, which reduces driver fatigue on typical stop-start duty cycles. Two-step entry makes it easy on drivers and bin operators who may be in and out of the vehicle multiple times per shift, while the comfortable seats, low engine noise and excellent vision make this 6x4 Scania P 310 easy to drive.
Other driver-friendly features include electronically-controlled disc brakes, EBS with integrated ABS and traction control and hill hold. A power divider and differential lock are also standard for superior traction.
The Scania P 310 can be specified with seating for three operators if required. The standard specification has a low tare weight of 8230kg when fully fuelled with 300-litres of diesel and 55-litres of AdBlue.
The P 310 comes complete with a heavy-duty steel bumper and electrical connections suitable for waste compactors. The wheelbase of 5375mm allows plenty of space for a standard or low-profile waste compactor to be fitted.
"With the new ready-built Scania P 310 rear loader we are looking to capitalise on the success we have had with our front loader in the waste contractor market,” says Dean Dal Santo, Scania Australia National Sales Manager.
"In addition to success in the waste market in Australia over recent years we are building on very high levels of penetration of the waste market in Europe where Scania is one of the leading suppliers to this industry.
"Thanks to our decades of experience in this sector, Scania has perfected chassis integration for compactor bodies and hydraulic controls, with a powerful and reliable PTO allowing high reliability of operation, in line with Scania’s dedication to maximum uptime," Dean says.
A new Scania P 310 rear loader with the low profile compactor body will be on display at the Superior Pak stand (WOT8) at the Waste Management in Action show at Melbourne Showgrounds during the 2016 ITTES from May 5-7.
