Scania scoops German enviro award

Scania has been awarded a ‘Green Truck 2014' award by two respected German transport trade magazines

German road freight magazines Verkehrs-Rundschau and Trucker have awarded Scania’s G 410 as the truck with the lowest environmental impact, earning it the accolade of Green Truck 2014.

With its low emissions and an average recorded fuel economy of 23.29L/100km, the Euro-6-compliant Scania G 410 proved unassailable in the comparison test, the 6702 points it amassed putting it out in front in the environmental stakes by a wide margin.

Scania’s Sales Director for Germany and Austria, Christian Hottgenroth, said the award was recognition of Scania’s proactive approach to embracing Euro 6 compliance.

“We are delighted with the Green Truck award, especially since this is the second time a Scania truck with a Euro 6 engine has received it,” he said.

“Two years ago we received our first Green Truck award for the Scania R 480 model with a Euro 6 engine. It makes us especially proud that with the G 410 Euro 6, we can now offer the heavy tractor unit with the smallest environmental impact in the market.

“Scania’s engineers have had fuel consumption, uptime and reduced environmental impact as guiding principles in their efforts to develop the latest generation of the Scania Streamline truck range. For most of our customers, these precise aspects – together with cost effectiveness – have become absolutely critical to their operations.”

Scania first introduced a Euro 6 truck to the European market in 2011, with its second generation of models following in 2013. Euro 6 became mandatory for all new trucks in Europe from December 31, 2013.
