Scania to fill UK mega order

Scania recently signed the dotted line on what it claims is the single biggest order of new trucks ever placed in the United Kingdom
Scania has announced it will supply a staggering 1500 Euro 6 compliant trucks to British transport companies Eddie Stobart and A W Jenkinson Forest Products, making it – according to Scania – “the largest single order for vehicles to date in the UK”.
The deal follows on from two previous joint-procurement agreements with the two companies that have seen a total of 2000 Scania trucks delivered. The latest deal will see the 1500 trucks delivered over two years.
Road transport group Eddie Stobart maintains a current fleet of around 2500 trucks, while A W Jenkinson Forest Products hauls roughly two million tonnes of timber and green waste products each year.
All new trucks sold in Europe from December 31 must comply with Euro 6 emissions regulations. Scania’s first Euro 6 truck arrived in 2011 and the Swedish manufacturer has sold 6500 examples since.
The Chief Operating Officer at Stobart Group, William Stobart, said the decision to stick with Scania was simple.
“Our decision to continue taking Scania vehicles is based on their proven record with the Eddie Stobart and A W Jenkinson fleets,” he said.
“We saw no reason but to continue this relationship as we enter into Euro 6 production, with the new deal giving us a lot of flexibility going forward.”
The Managing Director of Scania (Great Britain) Limited, Claes Jacobsson, was understandably elated with the order.
“Since signing the first such order four years ago, our UK sales and service teams have worked tirelessly to ensure that we have continued to meet the expectations and demands of these two important operators,” he said. “I am therefore delighted that Scania has once again been chosen as the preferred brand by both companies.”
The agreement, which also involves repair and maintenance contracts through Scania’s British service network, will span a broad range of truck specifications for use across a wide range of transport duties.
