Organiser of the MotoGP, Dorna, has announced a new two-year contract with Scania, confirming the company as the Sustainable Truck Supplier of MotoGP in 2018 and 2019.
Scania first came on board with the world's premiere motorcycle race series in 2015 and the new deal sees the truck manufacturer continue to supply 14 prime movers for MotoGP operations.
The fleet use HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) and have done since 2017, cutting CO2 emissions by 90 per cent compared to regular fuel. In addition, the partnership between Scania and MotoGP includes sustainability-focused digital content endorsing the shared values of both parties and a number of expositions in the MotoGP paddock.
“We are very pleased to partner Dorna in this project. Sustainable transport is available when partners such as Dorna and Scania accept the challenge, with close collaboration one of the keys. The Scania S500 and HVO are the perfect solution to the logistical needs of the paddock and Dorna have already begun the shift toward sustainability – a shift that Scania wants to lead,” says Renata Perucci, Presales, Marketing and Communication Director at Scania Ibérica.
“Our partnership with Scania is of great importance and we’re very happy to continue it for another two years,” says Pau Serracanta, Managing Director – Dorna Sports. “Sustainability is high on our agenda and having a partner like Scania on board is indispensable in our push towards reducing carbon emissions and making MotoGP greener and more sustainable.”
The fleet will now make their way to the Sachsenring for the German GP this weekend, where Scania Ambassador Marc Marquez has taken eight wins and pole positions in a row.
