Scania unveils new ‘Dunk Truck’

Locally conceived promotional platform to attend series of events throughout 2025

Scania Australia has come up with a novel way of drawing attention to the Scania brand, with a locally conceived and engineered ‘Dunk Truck’ drawing in basketball-obsessed youth as well as the young at heart.

Initially unveiled on Melbourne’s St Kilda foreshore in December, the truck will next appear at the Bathurst 12 Hour endurance race in late January before heading to Queensland for the 2025 Brisbane Truck Show.

“We recognise the intense interest in basketball at grass roots and at professional competition levels and we’re hoping that the presence of the Dunk Truck at events around the country will expose our brand to a potential market of young and ambitious Australians who might like to come to work for us,” says Zsuzsa Zalatnai, Marketing Director for Scania Australia.

Designed in-house at Scania Australia, the truck is based on a Scania P 360 6x2. It has a curtainsider body by Austruck Truck Bodies and side curtains printed and fitted by Royans Australia.

The truck is fitted with a basketball ring with backboard support mechanism, while the transportable 10m by 10m playing surface came from Dream Courts.

The vehicle was conceptualized and then brought to life by Scania Australia’s Pre-Sales and Marketing teams. Pre-Sales engineer Dean van Lunenburg (pictured below) carried out the engineering design under the careful eye of Pre-Sales Director William Fisher.

“In order to create a stable ring platform, we had to create a bespoke structure that would be able to withstand the pressures of play but also be able to be retracted for travel and transport,” Dean says.

“We’re very excited by how the design has turned out. The truck is very usable and lots of fun, and so far has drawn huge crowds wherever it has been parked up.

“We ran a test day at the Scania Head Office in Victoria where a surprising number of colleagues emerged from their cubicles to shoot a few hoops. That’s the beauty of the sport – it reaches out to so many people.”

Helping launch the truck was professional slam-dunk supremo Guy Dupuy, aka @therealfrequentflyer, who gave the truck a shakedown in his own inimitable style.

Dates for future events where you’ll find the Scania Dunk Truck will be published on the Scania Australia website and via its social media channels.
