Scania has lifted the lid on its latest innovation – the Super 11 engine – a lighter, more efficient addition to its Super powertrain portfolio aimed at operators seeking optimal performance without compromising on payload or sustainability.
Designed for weight-sensitive and energy-efficient transport applications, the Super 11 slots between Scania’s 9-litre and 13-litre engine platforms. The new 11-litre engine promises up to seven per cent better fuel efficiency compared to the existing 9-litre, while weighing 85kg less than the Super 13, Scania said.
Available in three output variants – 350 hp, 390 hp, and 430 hp – the Super 11 meets Euro 4, 5, and 6 emissions standards, and shares 85 per cent of its components with the proven Super 13 engine, ensuring consistency in performance, durability, and maintenance.
“This engine opens new possibilities for energy-efficient and cost-effective transport,” said Ayyoob Zarmehri, Product Manager – Trucks Sales and Marketing at Scania. “It’s lighter, leaner and more flexible, yet it still carries the strength and reliability for which Scania is known.”
The Super 11 features a number of key improvements, including Scania’s own cam phaser technology for variable valve timing for real-time engine thermal management and improved combustion performance.
Combined with new engine software and balance shafts, the new Super 11 provides for a smoother operation. Scania’s patented turbo dosing system also improves AdBlue usage and further enhances engine efficiency.
Also notable is its extended maintenance intervals – up to 30 per cent longer than Scania’s 9-litre engines when using LDF-5 engine oil – offering operators more uptime and lower total cost of ownership, Scania said.
Adding to its green credentials, the engine is compatible with renewable fuels including HVO and FAME, providing a practical path toward reduced emissions without the need for major infrastructure changes.
Some applications Scania said the Super 11 is well suited for include tipper and bulk transport, general cargo, fire engines, refuse collection and more.
The Super 11 engine will be available for order from June 2025.
