Second Bruce Highway?

Queensland Premier takes to social media to flag the creation of a second Bruce Highway if re-elected

Queensland Premier Anastacia Palaszczuk has announced on Facebook that if re-elected Labor Government would build an inland highway from Charters Towers to Mungindi.

The post said: “If re-elected, we have a vision to build an inland highway from Charters Towers to Mungindi.

“A second Bruce Highway would take trucks off the existing Bruce, making it safer for communities from Gympie to Townsville.

“Activating an inland freight route will also reduce travel times, support jobs and increase economic activity.”

There was no mention of how the new highway would be funded, nor how long it would take to build.

And while we would applaud the building of a new highway to make it easier to move freight from the south to North Queensland and vice versa, we’d question the building of a new highway while the existing one is in such disrepair.

Wouldn’t it be easier to upgrade the current Bruce Highway before embarking and such a monumental venture as building a new one?

We'll bring you more updates as they come to hand. Watch this space...
