Setra has notched up its 65th year of operations, with the Daimler brand selling over 107,000 models since it was born in 1951.
Since that time the company based in Ulm, Germany, has produced six different generations of bus, starting with the 10 series S 8 in 1951, then the 100 series (five models) in 1967, the 200 series (six models) in 1976, the 300 series in 1991, the TopClass 400 (over 20 models) in 2001, to the latest-generation 500 series, which spans the ComfortClass and TopClass coaches along with the recently developed rural-service MultiClass.
"In the past 65 years the brand has proven a pioneering force and its six model series have changed the face of European bus and coach manufacturing," says Daimler.
"The fact that we are now celebrating 65 years of Setra also demonstrates that, even after six decades, strong roots can continue to develop in new ways. This premium Daimler brand's recipe for success includes steady and highly motivated ongoing development of the vehicles in terms of vehicle technology, quality, comfort, safety, design and economic efficiency.
"The Ulm engineers' achievement in developing a self-supporting touring coach to production standard can be described as a step that revolutionised bus and coach manufacturing."
The brand points out that Setra has won numerous accolades for its products over the decades, in recent time including coveted 'Red Dot' design awards for its TopClass and ComfortClass touring coaches.
