The new Mercedes-Benz model has beaten other finalists, the Kenworth T610 and T610SAR and Iveco Eurocargo Euro 6 to take the Best Heavy Duty Truck gong at the Brisbane Truck Show.
Hino’s all new 500 Series Wide Cab took the honours in the Best Light or Medium Duty Truck category from Iveco Trucks Eurocargo Euro 6 range and Daily Van and Cab Chassis range.
With the exciting story of the development of the recently-released Kenworth T610, it was also short-odds favourite for other awards including Best Australian designed and engineered product and the Best Australian manufactured innovation.
Not surprisingly, the Kenworth scored well, however was held off from taking out both awards by MaxiTRANS, for the Freighter T-Liner Mark II curtain system.
MaxiTRANS trophy cabinet will be bursting at the seams having also won the Best Trailer Award for the Freighter T-Liner Mark II with load restraint gates; and the Best Component, Equipment or Service Innovation Award for Freighter Hanging Load Restraint Gates.
Meanwhile, Cummins’ and Eaton’s sophisticated engine and transmission combination, X-15 with ADEPT technology, took out the Best Technology Innovation Award.
The Best Vehicle Body Innovation Award was closely fought between Tosca Industries’ Transformer Truck Bodies, Ekebol with their TFSL Low Angle Tilt Tray Bodies and the award winner Truck Corp for their Multi positional hanging truck body dividing doors.
The judging panel took into account a range of criteria including technical innovation, service/maintenance support and safety when deliberating.
Daimler Truck and Bus Managing Director, Daniel Whitehead (pictured) says the Mercedes-Benz Truck and Bus team was thrilled to receive its award.
“It is a great honour for the Mercedes-Benz truck to be voted the Best Heavy Duty Truck by some of Australia’s most respected commercial vehicle journalists,” Mr Whitehead said.
He added that the new generation range is proving popular with the industry.
“The feedback from our customers around our new generation range has been exceptional, better than even we expected,” Mr Whitehead says.
Mercedes-Benz Truck and Bus Director, Michael May, says ‘word of mouth’ has boosted demand for the new model.
Mr May presented the recently-introduced Actros prime mover to the public for the first time at the Brisbane Truck Show and launched the new-generation Mercedes-Benz rigid range that is focused on distribution and vocational applications.
