Vawdrey trailers displayed an innovation at the Brisbane Truck Show that is so mind-bogglingly simple, it deserves an award.
Instead of drivers having to roll up tie-down straps and throw the loose end over the load, the straps are held in place by two bungy loops each side of the trailer. In effect, the straps are always deployed.
When it’s time to tie things down, the driver takes hold of the ends on each side and pulls them down in place, tightening up with the ratchet as normal. When unloading, the strap is released and retracts into the trailer roof. It's so simple, most guys at the show laughed when they saw it.
Along with that high-tech solution, Vawdrey also debuted its gate placement strap. It's attached to the tops of the gates, and the driver remains on the ground to put the gates in place. A strap is used to activate an articulated lever that lifts the gate out of the location slots in the trailer, allowing it to be removed or put in place with no risk of injury from lifting or bending. Another dead simple solution.
Combined, the two features drastically reduce the likelihood of drivers injuring themselves, or others, or damaging the roofs of trailers.
Just a couple of great ideas that will change the way we do transport…
