Stunt ace tackles Stadium Super Trucks

Top Aussie stunt rider Matt Mingay will be on the 10-strong grid when Stadium Super Trucks fires up at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide this weekend

Stunt ace Matt Mingay has been thrilling crowds for nearly 15 years on both two and four wheels, but he'll be aiming for a trophy, not just applause, when he fronts the starting lights in the Stadium Super Trucks support race at Adelaide's Clipsal 500 this weekend.

Mingay, of leading Australian stunt team Stuntz Inc, will be piloting one of the 10 race trucks set to tear up the Clipsal 500 circuit at the opening round of the 2015 V8 Supercars Championship.

In between the Stadium Super Trucks events, Mingay and the rest of the Stuntz Inc Hot Wheels team will be revving up the crowd with their own gravity-defying, tyre-frying antics.

Pioneered by NASCAR legend Robby Gordon, it will be the first time Stadium Super Trucks has made its way to Australia. The 650hp, V8-engined rigs will fly over 6m high off a series of ramps positioned around the course, their sheer power and long-travel suspension guaranteeing heart-stopping action at every outing.

Robby Gordon himself will also be competing, along with Dakar Rally dirt bike star Toby Price, former INDYCAR racer E.J. Viso, and V8 Utes Series regular Nathan Pretty, along with a host of other local and US talent.

Mingay says he's itching to jump behind the wheel in Adelaide.

"This weekend we are racing for trophies in front of a home crowd and I cannot wait," he said.

"Stadium Super Trucks is an awesome product that has just been going crazy in the US. If early interest is any indication, I think the Australian fans are going to go nuts for them.

"These things are loose – just the way I like it. I can't tell you how much I am looking forward to being out there with another nine trucks flying the Castrol EDGE and Hot Wheels colours. The more the fans roar the higher I'll jump – it should be nuts!"

Stadium Super Trucks will be practicing on track Thursday with racing Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
