Warren Lee, the owner of Sydney-based Combined Skips (and former NRL player), says his company's success is built on the reliability and performance of his all-Hino fleet.
Mr Lee runs three Hino 500 Series models – an FD Ranger Pro Hi Grade and two FM 2630 Autos – which are fitted Succi and BoB Italev hook lifts to deploy and retrieve skips ranging in size from four to 32 cubic metres.
Mr Lee bought his first Hino – a 1987 500 Series FD – 14 years ago, and the success he experienced with that truck led to the purchase of a used 500 Series GH before he purchased the three Hinos he owns today.
All three of the trucks that currently make up the Combined Skips fleet were bought through South Coast Truck and Bus Centre at Albion Park, south of Sydney.
When it comes to shifting skips, Mr Lee says the Hino FD is hard to beat.
"I can get into backyards, driveways and under high-rise buildings, and the turning circle is fantastic," he says.
"You have to ask yourself, why is it that almost every tow truck, paper truck and most car carriers you see are Hino FDs?"
Mr Lee is also a big believer in the virtues of a six-speed Allison automatic transmission, as fitted to his two FM models.
"You need to reverse under the bin while the power take-off and hook lift are operating, and operating a clutch and gearstick at the same time is difficult," he says.
"It [the auto] also makes life so much simpler when going up steep driveways, and you can lift the bins off while going forward in Drive."
Mr Lee says he was very happy with the service he received from South Coast Truck and Bus Centre, and that he hopes there will be more Hinos in his company's future.
"Hino certainly makes a good truck and I want to buy more," he says.
