Tamworth Regional Council has expanded its fleet with the recent addition of six Hino 700 Series 2848 FS ProShift 16 Air tippers, the new vehicles set up with either dog trailers specified to a GCM of 48 tonnes or with plant trailers.
According to Peter Grinter, Sales Manager for the supplying dealer, Wideland Hino, the trucks' comfort, smooth performance and automated manual transmission were the deciding factors for the council.
"The Hino AMT transmission and intarder brake were desirable features for council duties," he said.
"Tamworth Regional Council is very satisfied with the Hino product in regards to reliability, comfort and performance."
The newcomers to the fleet now sit alongside four Hino 700 Series FS 4562s bought in 2007 and five 300 Series models purchased in 2010.
Powered by an intercooled six-cylinder turbo-diesel said to produce 480hp (353kW) and 2157Nm, Hino's 700 Series 2848 FS ProShift 16 Air also features Hendrickson HAS airbag suspension and an ISRI 6860 Series suspension seat with integrated seatbelt.
The Hino offering also stood out for its high safety credentials, which see dual SRS airbags and anti-lock brakes fitted as standard, among numerous other safety features.
The ProShift 16 automated transmission provides 16 forward gears and two reverse gears, along with the benefits of easy two-pedal operation.
The new trucks have been put to work and can now be found re-sheeting gravel on the shire's 1947 kilometres of unsealed roads or patching potholes on its 1251 kilometres of sealed roads.
Tamworth Regional Council chose the 700 Series models after a competitive public tender, says Hino.
