Performing a U-turn in any heavy articulated vehicle is usually a slow, calculated and careful affair – especially when the load involved is fuel. However, a video clip recently posted on YouTube shows that not every truckie adopts the same measured approach.
Shot in Sri Lanka, the driver of the Ceylon Petroleum tanker executes a neat U-turn in the depot's tight confines while barely slowing down, his UD 340 prime mover jack-knifing around the tanker while the front of the cab misses concrete walls by centimetres.
We'll assume it's a move he's executed 1000 times before and we'd like to assume the tanker is empty, but the manoeuvre – carried out in front of a massive sign proclaiming 'Safety First' – is sure to have Western trucking operators grimacing.
