Following the inaugural event last year, Tata Motors has announced it's heading back to Buddh International Circuit near New Delhi, India, for the second instalment of its T1 Prima Truck Racing Championship.
To be held on Sunday, March 15, the day will see 12 race-prepped Tata Prima heavy-duty prime movers representing six teams lock horns on the 5.1 kilometre track, ensuring plenty of paint-swapping thrills.
Each driver will race identical examples of Tata's Prima 4038.S, with 370hp at 2100rpm and an increased top speed of 130km/h – 20km/h faster than the trucks at last year's event.
Last year saw multiple British truck-racing champion Stuart Oliver claim victory, taking Team Castrol Vecton to the title ahead of Team Cummins and Team Tata Technologies.
This year the trucks are more powerful, 10 per cent lighter, and feature a new aero package, while Tata has also introduced a new driver selection and training program to give talented Indian drivers a leg up into the world of truck racing.
Tata Motors is a giant of the Indian automotive landscape, where its products lead each commercial vehicle segment. While only the Tata Xenon ute is offered in Australia, importer and distributor Fusion Automotive – a division of the Walkinshaw Performance Group – says it will bring the Prima and the lighter Ultra to Australia in the not-too-distant future, followed by Tata passenger car models.
