TruckWeek 2014 will celebrate the Australian truck industry and the people who work in it over September 1-7.
This biannual event, co-ordinated by the Australian Trucking Association, seeks to highlight the industry's achievements and raise its profile by encouraging truck-related businesses to hold an event in their local area.
Businesses are being encouraged to stage any of a range of events, with suggestions ranging from awards ceremonies to recognise exceptional staff (2012 StarTrack awards ceremony pictured), holding a TruckWeek barbecue (2012 Lindsay Transport fun day pictured), taking a local politician for a drive in a truck, visiting a local school, or talking to local media, among others.
According to the ATA's Chair, Noelene Watson, TruckWeek is a great way to strengthen relations between the truck industry and the community.
"Trucking delivers 70 per cent of Australia’s freight, including every item on the shelves of every supermarket," she said.
"Our skilled drivers, mechanics and administration staff work safely and professionally around the clock to deliver the goods Australians use every day.
"TruckWeek 2014 is our chance to show Australians how trucking delivers.
"The national TruckWeek website has a host of great event ideas and resources to help carry them out, including template letters, safety tips and even official TruckWeek award certificates.
"I urge every trucking operator to visit the website, find an idea that suits your business and then register an event."
