TNT Express is set to construct an $85 million parcel processing facility on a 78,000-square-metre site that will include 26,000 square metres of warehousing, the new base to be staffed by around 300 employees.
TNT Express says the depot's up-to-the-minute facilities and systems will process up to 15,000 parcels per hour – that's five times the current capacity of the existing TNT Express site at Salisbury, to Brisbane's south. The new site should also achieve a projected 20 per cent decrease in carbon dioxide emissions.
Construction is scheduled to commence this month and should be competed in June 2015.
According to TNT Express Queensland Regional Director, Peter Gutsche, the new centre will only enhance the logistics specialist's service.
"The new TNT Express Redbank logistics hub will be a major facility in this important and growing area of Queensland," he said.
"It will contain some of the most technologically advanced and innovative parcel sorting technology available to improve the operational efficiency and security of our customers’ shipments.
"TNT Express is delighted to be working with the Ipswich Council and local suppliers in making this investment in jobs and the future of transport and logistics in this vital supply chain corridor."
The Redbank depot forms a part of TNT Express's wider investment in Australia, with two 'super hubs' – one in Sydney and one in Melbourne – also due for completion in 2015.
