Toll Group recently opened its new $170 million express parcel facility in Bungarribee, Sydney.
The freight and logistics giant says the 53,000 square metre facility, situated on an 18 hectare site, is the largest of its type in Australia and will process up to 35,000 parcels an hour for Toll Group's road freight division, Toll IPEC.
Toll Group's Managing Director, Brian Kruger, recently joined Toll IPEC Executive General Manager, Rodney Johnston, and the Minister for Industry, Ian Macfarlane (pictured), at an official opening ceremony for the facility.
Mr Johnston said the new plant features the latest in state-of-the-art parcel processing technology and places a firm focus on workplace safety.
"The facility allows for greater segregation of forklifts and pedestrians, reducing the need to share space on the floor," he said.
"The entire facility has a much stronger traffic management plan than in previous depots, due to key design initiatives relating to freight profile, truck type and traffic flow. This will help us to maintain our capacity at peak times.
"For our freight handlers, the chutes have been redesigned to allow for easier lifting and manoeuvring. And lastly, we have implemented scissor-lifts to prevent injuries while unloading pallets."
Mr Kruger said the new plant will play a key role in both Toll's growth and that of the local and national economies.
"This facility itself is key to consolidating Toll’s position as a leading provider of logistics services and in growing our extensive national distribution network over the next 20 years and beyond," he said.
"This new facility will be home to around 600 employees – currently spread across four sites in Moorebank, Homebush and Bankstown – and provides the ability to grow these numbers as capacity increases."
