Toll Group Divisional Director Mal Grimmond (pictured, right) was joined by Queensland Premier Campbell Newman (pictured, left) on Wednesday, May 14, to formally open Toll Group’s latest pallet and oversize freight depot, in the southern Brisbane suburb of Karawatha.
The new 43,600m² facility, situated on a 13-hectare site, is said to be the largest depot of its type across Toll’s global logistics network, and will also serve as the new national head office and main depot for road transport operator, Toll NQX.
Premier Newman said the new $86 million facility showed Toll Group’s commitment to Queensland’s economy.
“We are unashamedly pro-growth and pro-jobs for Queensland and we’re creating an environment where businesses can prosper,” he said.
Mr Grimmond said the new facility was a custom-built affair that incorporated the latest technologies and work practices.
“The new depot has been designed to provide the absolute safest working environment for our people, which is essential in a labour-intensive industry such as transport and logistics,” he said.
“We’ve purposely limited the interactions between pedestrians and forklifts as much as possible, and our unprecedented 2000m² dedicated heavy vehicle workshop highlights the importance Toll places on the safety of its truck fleet, the safety of the people who drive them, and the safety of the communities they drive through.”
