Toll signs NSW medivac deal

Toll Group has signed a contract that will see southern NSW and the ACT serviced by eight medical helicopters stationed across four bases
Logistics and transport heavyweight Toll Group has announced it has signed a deal with the New South Wales Health Administration Corporation to provide a specialist aeromedical service for the southern part of the state and the ACT.
The 10-year contract, which is forecast to generate total revenues of around $800 million, will see eight purpose-built medical helicopters stationed across four bases, with an aeromedical training centre of excellence to be constructed at Sydney's Bankstown Airport. The latter is the first of its type in Australia, says Toll.
Toll Group Managing Director, Brian Kruger, said the company would leverage its considerable air evacuation and search-and-rescue expertise to deliver a world-class emergency response service.
"Every year in NSW and ACT there are more than 3000 flights needed for emergencies such as car accidents, inter-hospital transfers and search-and-rescue tasks," he said.
"Toll is well known for providing operational excellence in a range of transport services, including helicopter services for the Australian Federal Police in the Solomon Islands and the Australian Defence Force in East Timor, and providing disaster relief management support across the Asia Pacific region on behalf of Australian Government agencies.
"The experience we bring will give confidence to the people of NSW and the ACT that an outstanding helicopter medical rescue service is available."
The training centre at Bankstown Airport will feature flight and training simulators, an advanced underwater training complex, and wet and dry winching practice towers.
"All Toll and NSW Ambulance staff will be trained to international best practice by utilising the most modern training programs and techniques and the latest simulation technology," said Mr Kruger.
Toll says over 100 operational and engineering roles will be created ahead of the start of operations for the service, which will become operational in January 2017. Toll has invited interested applicants and suppliers to email toll.nswhelicopters@tollgroup.com for more information.
