Toll Wingliner takes flight

Toll Express has worked with trailer giant Vawdrey to roll out an innovative Wingliner truck with auto curtains and mezzanine

Logistics specialist Toll Express says its fleet of new Wingliner trucks, now being used for deliveries in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, are boosting productivity and enhancing safety thanks to their innovative, time-saving design.

Produced by Vawdrey in collaboration with Toll, the Wingliner features curtains that can be raised at the push of a button and an adjustable, motor-driven mezzanine deck.

According to Toll Express General Manager, Larry O'Regan, the trucks bring with them multiple benefits.

"We purchased our first rigid-truck Wingliner around 12 months ago," he said.

"During this time we have seen multiple benefits for both Toll Express customers and staff who both gain from the Wingliner's smart, safe and time-saving technology.

"Unlike traditional vehicles, where the sides are manually opened and closed to load and unload freight, the Wingliner's sides automatically open and close with a simple push of a button.

"This allows staff on lifting restrictions to return to the workforce sooner and reduces the time spent in loading docks, enabling customers to access their freight quicker, reduce congestion and increase productivity."

The adjustable mezzanine floor allows drivers to accept a wide variety of loads and make the most of the truck's available storage capacity, while the auto curtains are said to save around seven minutes per delivery or pick-up.

"The time saved over manually opening and closing the curtains, together with automated mezzanine floors and larger vehicles, enables drivers in some cases to more than double their deliveries per day," says Mr O'Regan.

Presently Toll Express has seven Wingliners working across the eastern capitals, with plans for six more to be pressed into service by the end of 2015.
