Torsus unveils 4x4 Terrastorm cab/chassis

Billed by the Slovakian company as “the world’s most versatile heavy-duty off-road truck”, the Terrastorm will go on sale globally from January 1, 2022, and is based on the Volkswagen Crafter/MAN TGE platform.

Available in three GVMs – 3500kg, 5000kg, and 5500kg – it comes in single-cab or dual-cab formats in a choice of two wheelbases: 3640mm or 4490mm.

The ‘Flatframe’ chassis is ready to accept a host of bodies and easily converts to flatbed, dropside, tipper or crane configurations, while the Terrastorm will be available in both left-hand drive and right-hand drive configurations.

Powering the Terrastorm is a Euro 6 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel with output ratings of either 130kW (177hp) and 410Nm or 103kW (140hp) with 340Nm, plus a choice of six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmissions.

Torsus says the Volkswagen 4MOTION driveline gives it the go-anywhere capability demanded in extreme theatres of operation, including mining, agriculture, forestry, recovery, tourism and emergency services.

Features include aluminium side steps, full underbody protection, a steel bullbar, and a rear diff lock, along with BG Goodrich All Terrain tyres, a 5500kg-rated front winch, a snorkel, and a durable anti-scratch coating on lower surfaces.

Smoothing the way, meanwhile, is off-road suspension with MacPherson struts and Bilstein B6 shock absorbers up front, along with adjustable camber bolts from Ironman4x4. It has leaf springs with Ironman4x4 Load Plus and Profender Dakar shocks at the rear.

The Torsus Terrastorm comes backed by a two-year global warranty and full aftersales support, with coverage extendable to five years or 400,000km in selected markets. Torsus delivers to customers across four continents, including Australia.
