Trucking Australia 2014 – the annual conference hosted by the peak representative body for the Australian truck industry, the Australian Trucking Association (ATA) – gets underway today (Friday, June 6) at Hamilton Island, Queensland.
The two-day conference will bring together a wide range of people across the broader spectrum of the Australian truck industry, from drivers to company directors to representatives from various regulatory bodies.
Paul Retter, Chief Executive of the National Transport Commission, together with Sal Petroccitto, CEO of the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator, will get the ball rolling by bringing delegates up to speed on the latest developments in government policy and regulations. This will be followed by a welcome address by ATA Chair, Noelene Watson, and then a session on safety by the General Manager HS&E/Compliance for K&S Freighters, Simon Skazlic.
Andrew Niven from Linfox will discuss ways in which the trucking industry can be made a healthy industry of choice, while delegates will also be coached in a Chain of Responsibility 'masterclass', and will hear the ATA's Chief Executive, Stuart St Clair, interview two industry 'legends' at the Kenworth Legends Luncheon.
Other notable events include the Transport Women Australia Breakfast and the BPW Transpec BBQ, while the conference will be capped off with the ATA Foundation Sponsors Gala Awards Dinner, the highlight of which will be the announcement of the 2014 National Trucking Industry Awards.
The two days promise to shed great insight into the most pressing issues with which the Australian trucking industry is currently faced, with the outcomes of these highly interactive sessions then moulding the ATA's policies as it moves forwards.
