TruckSafe ranks swell

The ATA's TruckSafe heavy-vehicle accreditation program has welcomed another three members to the fold

NSW-based GRS Towing and Queensland's Strasburg Bros Livestock Carriers and H Dowling & Sons recently signed on as the latest members of the Australian Trucking Association's TruckSafe safety accreditation program.

Established in 1979, GRS Towing provides Sydney and beyond with an array of recovery towing and transport equipment. Providing a full range of heavy-vehicle accident and towing services, GRS Transport specialises in first-response services for Sydney, Marulan, Mount White and Mount Victoria, along with providing extensive interstate services.

"We want to provide support to transport companies when they're in need," said GRS Towing Managing Director, Barry Hunt.

"In this business, we see heavy vehicle accidents day in, day out – it really drives it home that it's essential to have a good compliance system in your business. It shows you're reliable, and gives you the backing you need when things go wrong.

"We joined TruckSafe to promote our professionalism, and to give ourselves some benchmarks to meet in our business. I'd rather have a system and audits to help us make sure we're on top of things internally, than wait until the authorities have to point things out."

With more than 37 years' experience in carting cattle, Strasburg Bros Livestock Carriers services all of Queensland and parts of the Northern Territory, and it's had TruckCare accreditation since 2003.

"You've just got to be in TruckSafe and TruckCare – it keeps everyone happy, including your clients," said Strasburg Director, Lester Strasburg.

"We're proud of having really good employees who do the right thing. We could make the business bigger, but then you wouldn't know everyone in it. I don't want to go past the local fellows – we've got some people who have been with us for 30, 32 years."

H Dowling & Sons was first established in 1936 in Biggenden, transporting cream to the local butter factory. Today its fleet specialises in livestock transport, gaining TruckCare accreditation in 2005.

TruckSafe Chairman Stephen Marley congratulated the businesses on joining the TruckSafe program.

"I'm proud to welcome GRS Towing, Strasburg Bros Livestock Carriers and H Dowling & Sons to the TruckSafe program, and commend them on making the decision to put safety first in their business," he said.
