Unimog wins Euro mag award

Mercedes-Benz Unimog awarded 'Cross-country Vehicle of the Year' in the special-purpose category by Germany's respected Off Road magazine
The Mercedes-Benz Unimog has triumphed in the annual awards of one of Europe's most respected 4WD magazines.
The Unimog gained 35.5 per cent of over 63,000 votes to claim the title of 'Cross-country Vehicle of the Year' in the special-purpose category of the awards, which were held recently by German title, Off Road.
It's the tenth consecutive time the Unimog has won the award. Held since 1982, the photo shows Unimog Product Manager, David Böhler (left), with Head of Development for the Unimog All-Terrain and Cab, Achim Vogt, at the award ceremony in Munich.
The model was one of 127 available for selection in the awards across 13 categories, the vehicles representing a total of 58 manufacturers.
Mercedes-Benz says the Unimog is up to virtually any off-road task, boasting a 1200mm maximum wading depth and able to tackle inclines of up to 45 degrees. Its all-wheel-drive system features engageable diff locks while a tyre pressure control system can be employed to reduce or increase tyre pressures to suit the prevailing terrain.
The Unimog is powered by a 5.1-litre, four-cylinder BlueTec 6 common-rail diesel, which Mercedes-Benz says is good for 170kW (230hp) and 900Nm. An implement-carrier model was also released recently in Europe, its Euro VI engine available in a variety of formats of up to 220kM (299hp).
