Volkswagen ID. Buzz gets closer

The world will get its first real look at the 2022 Volkswagen ID. Buzz on March 9, and the world’s graphic designers have continued to speculate and dream about what the born-again battery-powered VW Kombi will really look like in its finished form.

Following an official tease from Volkswagen in early November, and another by VW Group CEO Herbert Diess earlier this month, Russian outlet Kolesa.ru has come out with a fresh render of the Kombi’s successor.

Removing the multi-coloured swirls seen in the most recent official Volkswagen teases and replacing them with a dashing Caravelle-inspired two-tone colour scheme, the render is the best look we’ve had yet at the all-electric van.

With the eye-warping swirls gone, we can see the Volkswagen ID. Buzz is awash with smooth flowing lines – as per the original Kombi – and free of any notable creases save for the parabolic line linking the headlights and tail-lights (and also containing the sliding door tracks).

As per the official teaser, the alloy wheels have been aerodynamically optimised, however, the designer has taken a few artistic liberties and tweaked the design – for the better in our eyes.

Other confirmed features include the full-width front lighting signature, chunky mesh lower ‘grille’, a long wheelbase with minimal overhangs and Kombi-style slats on the rear pillar.

When the Volkswagen ID. Buzz does eventually launch it is anticipated to serve as an electric alternative to the T7 Volkswagen Multivan like the ID.3 does to the Golf.

What ID model name it will wear and when it comes Down Under remains unclear, but Volkswagen Group Australia has previously expressed interest in the reincarnated Kombi EV and will start its ID rollout with the ID.4 mid-size electric SUV.
