Volvo announces new $30m HQ

Global President and CEO on hand to turn the first sod on new Brisbane base and dealership
Volvo Group Australia has enhanced its commitment to the Australian market with the commencement of construction of a $30m national headquarters and dealership in Brisbane.
The company’s new HQ will be at the Metroplex Westgate Business Park which is close to the Volvo truck assembly plant in Wacol.
Volvo Group’s president and CEO Mr Martin Lundstedt (pictured) was on hand for the ground-breaking ceremony yesterday (March 22) as part of a whirlwind world tour.
Martin Lundstedt joined Volvo in October 2015 as President of AB Volvo and Chief Executive Officer of the Volvo Group after a 20 year career at Scania. Mr Lundstedt was the President and CEO of Scania AB from 2012 to 2015.
Guests on hand for the turning of the first sod included the Swedish Ambassador to Australia par Ahlberger, Australian Trucking Association Chairperson Noelene Watson, Australian Industry Group National manufacturing Director Mark Goodsell and UD Trucks Executive Chairman Joachim Rosenberg.
As well as a new national Headquarters, the new development will include a new VCV Brisbane South dealership and a paint and panel workshop.
Around 320 people will relocate from other Volvo sites in the area to the new development. More than 550 employees will continue to work at Volvo’s five other sites in Wacol.
The new headquarters and Brisbane South dealership are due to open in late 2017. A Volvo spokesman said that the buildings will be highly energy efficient making use of solar power, LED lighting and rainwater harvesting.
Models built at the Wacol facility include the Volvo FH, FM and FMX and the Mack Granite, Metro-Liner, Super-Liner, Trident and Titan.
