It's about as unlikely a match as you'll find: Volvo's FH prime mover going head to head on the track with the world's first megacar, the Koenigsegg One:1.
But that's exactly what Volvo Trucks has done to highlight the virtues not just of its latest FH but also its new I-Shift Dual Clutch in its latest social media campaign, published on YouTube yesterday (November 11).
The premise is actually pretty simple. Renowned British car journalist Tiff Needell jumps behind the wheel of a 4x2 Volvo FH on Sweden's Ring Knutstorp circuit and attempts to complete one lap in the truck before the Koenigsegg One:1, driven by the supercar maker's own test driver, can complete two.
The stats are, in fact, fairly terrifying. The FH is good for 540hp and 2600Nm and weighs in at around eight tonnes, while the Koenigsegg One:1 pumps out 1360hp and 1371Nm and tips the scales at just 1360 kilograms. That makes it the world's first series-produced supercar – or megacar, as Koenigsegg itself puts it – to have a one-to-one horsepower-to-kilogram ratio…
We could go on about the pre-race build-up, the acclimatisation session as Tiff familiarises himself with a vehicle far larger than his usual automotive fare, the look of terror in the eye of the Volvo staffer accompanying him and so on, but we won't. Instead, we'll let the clip – which is of Volvo's typically high standard – speak for itself…
