At the recent handover of the Mack Granite to TAFE Queensland, Peter Voorhoeve, President of Volvo Group Australia, had the opportunity to address a small group of first-year apprentices, including Ryan Stewart from VCV Brisbane North (pictured with Mary Campbell, General Manager of TAFE Queensland SkillsTech and Mr Voorhoeve) where he stressed the importance of a good foundation education.
"Technology will move fast from now on," said Mr Voorhoeve. "Technology is constantly evolving but a good understanding of how all the components of a truck work together is critical. You have made the first steps into an exciting and thriving industry, and I look forward to seeing many of you working in our workshops in years to come.
"It gives me great pride to donate this truck to SkillsTech," continued Peter. "We have a long history of co-operation with SkillsTech, but to provide a truck that they can use to train the future generations of workshop technicians means great things for our industry as a whole."
"I firmly believe that customer satisfaction is key to market leadership," said Peter. "And in order to provide world-class service to our customers, we need world-class technicians. As leaders of the Australian heavy-duty market, I feel Volvo Group Australia has an obligation to support the future generations of technicians so we can continue to provide world-class service.
"After meeting a small group of first-year apprentices today, and seeing the fantastic facilities in which they are trained, I have full confidence that our industry will have the high-quality technicians we need."
Mary Campbell, General Manager of TAFE Queensland SkillsTech, thanked Peter Voorhoeve for the generous donation and stressed how crucial donations, such as the Mack Granite, are to the future of the industry.
"Volvo Group Australia’s generous donation of this truck enables SkillsTech to provide the best possible training for our apprentices," said Ms Campbell. "On behalf of TAFE Queensland SkillsTech, I would like to thank Volvo Group Australia for investing in the future of the heavy vehicle industry, and I’m confident our apprentices will make great employees, thanks to your support."
