WA Transport Minister appointed

WA Premier Colin Barnett has appointed Dean Nalder as the state's new Minister for Transport and Finance
Following the recent resignation of Western Australia’s Treasurer and Minister for Transport, Troy Buswell, for mental health reasons, the state’s Premier, Colin Barnett, has announced a cabinet reshuffle that will see Dean Nalder (pictured) appointed as Minister for Transport and Finance.
Barnett said Forty-eight-year-old Nalder, who comes to the role as the Liberal member for the Legislative Assembly seat of Alfred Cove, will be of great benefit to the people of Western Australia.
“I am very pleased to welcome Dean Nalder to the frontbench and believe he will be a great asset to the Cabinet and a very good minister,” he said.
Mike Nahan retains his Energy and Citizenship and Multicultural Interest portfolios but also assumes the role of Treasurer.
Nalder represents the third generation of his family to play an active role in WA’s state politics – his father, Cambell Nalder, represented the National Party in the seat of Narrogin and his grandfather, Sir Crawford Nalder, was a former Deputy Premier – and he steps into the role with tertiary qualifications in economics and financial management.
He has also represented WA in football and basketball and has previously owned and managed a farming property.
Agricultural Region MLC Jim Chown will retain his role as Parliamentary Secretary for the Minister for Transport.
